In June 2019, I supported Marconi Union at two rare gigs in Leeds and Sheffield.

When I was first booked, these were to be my final gigs in the UK before moving to the US - a fitting finale to that chapter of my life. Unfortunately, the move to America was abruptly cancelled and I found myself having to plan my life in the UK. Instead of an ending, this became the beginning of a new chapter.

The deep emotions I was feeling and the sense of purpose planning for these gigs meant I was very inspired to create music. I created a new system that I used live which helped me improvise to create slow, swirling atmospheric soundscapes.

This was also the first chance for me to create a video backdrop for each live concert, which I did over several weeks, using various elements - layers of film of fire, smoke and translucent material.

A note about the titles:

Fire in the Sky
This was the first time I had played along with the video backdrop which contains fire seemingly floating in the sky.

Sail Away to Heaven
This is a reference to the venue in Sheffield which had previously been a factory making nuts and bolts for ships and a church.

In a Room of My Own Design
At the soundcheck in Leeds, the room was filled with the sound and visuals I had created.
